Miércoles 4 de mayo de 2011 – Puerto Iguazú, Argentina

Me levanté temprano pero no se porque fue pasando el tiempo y cuando me dí cuenta eran las 10 de la mañana.  Salí para tomar el bus que me llevaría al Parque Nacional Iguazú, en la estación terminal, que, por suerte se encuentra a sólo cinco cuadras del hotel.

Llegué a la entrada del Parque, presente mi control del día anterior y con eso pagué sólo la mitad, A$ 50.00 ($ 12.50).

Comencé mi programa de visitas en la Estación Central del trencito que une los diferentes recorridos, tomando el que me llevaría a la más lejana, Garganta del Diablo.

El trencito es todo abierto así que pude ir haciendo algo de video y fotografía en el trayecto que duró unos 15 minutos.

Al llegar a la estación mencionada comenzamos un largo recorrido por senderos elevados de madera, con barandas de seguridad, cruzando una región de ríos y espacios de tierra firme con vegetación típica del bosque subtropical. Esta región es la que se encuentra en la parte superior de las cataratas y toda esa agua que pasaba bajo nuestros pies sería luego parte de las innumerables caídas.

El fin del sendero se aproximó a la parte superior de la Garganta del Diablo, lugar impresionante donde una cantidad de agua inimaginable se junta para formar el mayor salto tanto en volumen como en tamaño de todo el conjunto. El ruido era ensordecedor y la vista dejaba a uno sin palabras. Además, desde este lugar se podía apreciar una parte del resto de los saltos ubicados más lejos.

Allá abajo, a unos 50 o 60 metros de donde nos encontrábamos, se podían divisar los caminos de los Circuitos Superior e Inferior y una gran cantidad de gente caminando por ellos, así como el río Iguazú, después de los saltos, un embarcadero de los botes de goma y parte de la Isla San Martín, ubicada frente al conjunto.

Después de numerosas fotos y videos (por suerte andaba con mi trípode pequeño), volvimos a la estación del trencito, donde subimos a otro que nos llevaría a la estación intermedia, Cataratas, donde pasaría la mayor parte de mi tiempo en el Parque, pues consta de dos senderos, uno el Circuito Superior y el otro el Inferior.

Comencé por el Circuito Superior, el más corto de unos 650 metros y nuevamente recorrimos por senderos elevados de madera una región donde la vegetación era más abundante pues nos encontrábamos ya con la influencia de los saltos y la humedad era muy alta. A medida que se avanzaba nos íbamos encontrando con diferentes saltos, en otro nivel que antes, aunque aún sin enfrentar la parte más baja de los mismos, que veríamos luego.

Fotografías y video abundantes nuevamente, a veces le pedía a alguien que me tomara una foto, así como también me lo pedían a mí, y otras veces, extendiendo el brazo, aprovechaba el lente gran angular de la misma para autoretratarme.

Al terminar este recorrido nos encontramos por todos lados con grupos de coatíes que andaban deambulando por los senderos en busca de comida, aunque estaba prohibido alimentarlos, ellos siempre trataban de conseguir algo…

Entre ambos senderos paré para comen un chipá y una soda y luego, siempre caminando, inicié el

Circuito Inferior, el más demandante. Y lo fué en verdad porque está formado no sólo por caminos elevados sino también por escaleras que nos hacían subir o bajar así como caminos sólidos en pendiente, los más cansadores.

Los caminos nos fueron llevando a través de un bosque similar al anterior y quedar al pie de muchos de los saltos con unos panoramas impresionantes hacia arriba y también hacia las tumultuosas aguas que partían de las caídas.

Desde allí pudimos ver la aventura de los botes de goma que se metían llenos de pasajeros, por un minuto, casi debajo de las más imponentes caídas, incluyendo la Garganta del Diablo. De más está decir que todos terminaban empapados (iban con capas) y que el bote tenía dos motores de gran potencia para poder entrar y salir en ese infierno de agua cayendo con violencia.

Volvimos algo mojados también pero no tanto como nos avisaron, especialmente porque en la última cascada nos acercamos tanto que nos llegaba el agua pulverizada…

Ahora, en lugar de tomar el trencito de vuelta, volví caminando por otro sendero terrestre, el “Sendero Verde”, similar al Macuco del día anterior, pero aquí me encontré con grupos de aves muy acostumbradas a los turistas (Urracas paraguayas) y muy coloridas, así como con un grupo de monos que hicieron las delicias de todos los que caminábamos el sendero. Ya al finalizar pude observar un hornero cerca de su típico nido hecho de barro.

Tomé el bus de vuelta para el centro de Puerto Iguazú y, antes de dirigirme al hotel, como ya era casi de noche, decidí comer en un restaurante que se encontraba en el camino, atraído por una oferta: surubí, un pez del Río Parana, a la parrilla. Hace mucho tiempo lo había comida y me había parecido muy rico.

En realidad lo comí a la mostaza y a la parrilla, acompañado de abundante salada de lechuga y tomate. Fue un verdadero manjar aunque sea un poco pesado, así que me fui caminando muy despacio, porque además estaba muerto de cansancio de haber caminado todo el día, llegué al hotel y me acosté rápidamente, después de haber revisado mi internet, para pasar mi última noche en Argentina.
